2,000 LED's and a cheapie LED Tester. I got the LED's here. I got the tester here. |
The 2 boards arrived today... |
And were built the same day :) |
| I bought a 4' x 8' sheet of pegboard today. Lowes had 2 sizes of holes to choose from, Home Depot had only 1. They both had holes that were too big, but Lowes also had pegboard with holes that were too small. It was either go with too big, and hot glue / silicone all the LED's in, or go with the small and drill out 1536 holes. I went for the small holed board at Lowes, and drilled out 1536 holes. It was a HUGE pain, but the fit nice and snug. |
I cut the sheet to be 16 holes by 96 holes, and spray painted the front side black. This picture shows half of the LED's inserted. I tested every single one, and not one was bad - pretty good QC!!! |
Back side of the board. 1536 LED's x 2 solder points each = 3072 solder points. YIKES!!! |
Ryan helping me fill it up with LED's. |
|
Ryan putting in the very last LED and Matthew with the checker! |
All LED's in, on side has all columns and 4 rows done - MAN does this take time!!! |
Close up of the grid... |
Making the frame. |
|
Another view. |
I put the board in upside down to finish soldering up the rows. |
Only 8 rows on 1/2 of the sign left!!! |
The grid is now all soldered - Painting time!!! |
|
Drying. |
Board in, no Plexiglas yet. |
I bought a BUNCH of patch cables from FireFold.com with the DIYC Discount. This is one of the boxes... |
The LEDTriks controllers with the patch cables plugged in - I'll cut the ends off and wire them to the board next! Yeah - I was anal and did red for the anodes, black for the cathodes, and green for the data :) |
| Click here to see a movie of the LEDTriks board in action! I've got 3 columns that are in need of troubleshooting, but IT WORKS GREAT!!! |
I finally got the Plexiglas cut and the molding attached today. I caulked all the edges as well, so it's pretty water resistant. |
